All Haudenosaunee have traditionally been a part of clans which still exist today. Our clans are named from animals, birds or fish.

This design is based on the most common clans in Mohawk communities – featuring the Bear, Wolf, Turtle and Snipe. The Clans are passed down matrilineally to their children. Each Clan is given certain responsibilities in the longhouse.
