This design is honouring two very significant symbols for many Indigenous Nations – the Medicine Wheel, representing many elements of life, balance, values and strengths to many Indigenous Nations. The Medicine Wheel design has been widely accepted and defined as a sacred, circular symbol representing the interconnectedness of all life, balance, and the cycles of nature, divided into four colors (yellow, red, black, white) representing the 4 directions, seasons, stages of life, and aspects of being (spiritual, emotional, physical, mental). The Medicine Wheel is used as a teaching tool for healing, wisdom, holistic well-being, and placing an emphasis on harmony with Mother Earth. The Medicine Wheel has many specific meanings among First Nations.
This frame design further incorporates the Eagle Feather, creating a powerful statement of honour and respect. The Eagle Feather is an object of great importance among the Haudenosaunee and many Indigenous Nations and is usually given to someone in recognition of an accomplishment or respect. It's an honour to receive an eagle feather.
